PPC Wins $17.3 Million Contract to Support Two National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) Mission-critical Systems
Project Performance Company, LLC (PPC) was selected by the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) to continue its support of the Description and Authority Service (DAS), a system PPC developed and has maintained since 2009, and to assume support of the National Archives Catalog (NAC) system. PPC will provide Operations and Maintenance (O&M) and Development, Modernization, and Enhancement (DME) efforts for both NAC and DAS under this new contract. The contract is valued at approximately $17.3M, if all options are exercised.
DAS serves as the metadata repository that classifies and catalogs NARA’s records processed by the agency’s archivists, and feeds into NAC to provide public access to the records through the NARA website. In addition, the combined capabilities of NAC and DAS will allow other systems and agencies to provide direct access to record data in machine readable forms through the API already built by PPC and other future API initiatives as designated by NARA and its stakeholders.
“PPC is honored to continue our critical support to NARA’s important mission with our innovative services and solutions. PPC worked collaboratively to architect and deliver the DAS system and to deploy it in the Cloud – considered one of the first successful Federal systems to transition to the cloud. The DAS and NAC systems are Big Data applications, with rapid growth expected to be measured in Petabytes per year as NARA continues to work in-partnership with Federal agencies in its mission to preserve and provide ready access to the historically valuable records of the Federal Government” commented PPC President and Chief Executive Officer Paul Strasser. “This award adds to PPC’s growing list of mission-critical application development, enhancement and operations deployed in the cloud.”
The new 5-year contract will include O&M services based on the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL v3) service model and agile life-cycle development and enhancement using mature processes externally appraised at CMMI Level 3. Key O&M activities will include IT planning and infrastructure optimization, balanced scorecard operations, Tier 2 and 3 support, network support, software license services, system monitoring, software maintenance and upgrades, configuration and change management, data quality management, and testing.
