PPC's Rakesh Gupta and Dale Tuttle were recently interviewed by Microsoft architect evangelist Zhiming Xue "Z" for the Channel 9 program on insights about building online document management and collaboration solutions.


These "collaborative web-based document composition solutions" are based on open standards based technologies such as Microsoft OpenXML, or OpenDocument (ODF).
They defined and demonstrated seven characteristics of document composition:
  1. Document being aware of its environment
  2. Document as user interface
  3. Document as data structure or template
  4. Rich online editing experience
  5. Document management
  6. Real-time online collaboration
  7. Online and offline editing capability
